It Takes Two Hands…

to handle a Whopper.  Get your mind out of the gutter!  My friend and I enjoyed the glory which is the Whopper from the BK Lounge this evening (some savouring it more than others…).  And it got me to thinking about the history and story of the whopper.

The Whopper was created in 1957 by BK Lounge founder James McLamore and was originally sold for 37 cents!  The Whopper has gone through several varieties including a a kaiser roll and a 1/3lb burger, but it always comes back to the original.  What fascinated me most, though, were the variations it comes in in different countries:

  • UK and Ireland offers a Meat Beast Whopper that includes Bacon, American Cheese and Sliced Perpperoni
  • In Isreal they have a Garlic Whopper that has chopped garlic
  • In Australia you can get a Whopper with a fried egg on top
  • Japan offers to put Teriyaki sauce instead of ketchup
  • The Italian Whopper in Chile offers guacamole instead of lettuce
